The Zoology major will provide you with the opportunity to study animals and their habitats including Western Australia鈥檚 unique fauna. These habitats are diverse and range from deserts through to temporary wetlands and rainforests. Zoologists discover the solutions to the problems presented by these habitats.
This major will provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of animal structure and function and the evolutionary processes that have engendered animal diversity.

Career Pathways
Zoology graduates are employed in private sector companies (such as fisheries, aquaculture, resources sector), in government departments (for example, Environment, Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, State Fisheries), in public agencies (such as museums and zoos) and in environment and conservation research agencies (CSIRO), while others may join academic institutions.
Further Study
The course for Honours in Zoology is a blend of coursework and research designed to introduce you to the world of research on animals. You鈥檒l be equipped with the skills and flexibility of outlook needed to deal with rapidly changing technologies and to lead to habits of critical thinking, problem solving, statistical analysis and effective science communication, which would serve in any leadership role. You'll be guided through each step of your research project.
The combination of formal study and practical experience offered by the course prepares you for entry into postgraduate academic research programs, and into workplaces including but not limited to environmental consultancy or local and national government research agencies. You鈥檒l develop skills of logical and creative thinking and writing through exposure to a range of research projects via seminars, the guided formulation of a research proposal, and the iterative cycle of production鈥揻eedback鈥搑eview鈥搑efinement involved in the writing of a research paper. Honours in Zoology can lead to many careers including ecologist/biologist, environmental impact assessor, scientific researcher, science education, flora or fauna officer, government policy writer and consultant, consultant for mining companies, science journalist, laboratory technician or field research officer.

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete an international academic qualification equivalent to Australian High School (or equivalent).
English language requirements:
IELTS (academic): Overall minimum score of 6.5, no band lower than 6.0
TOEFL Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): an overall score of 82 or above with a minimum score of 22 in writing, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 20 in listening
Pearsons Test of English (PTE) (academic): An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 59 in the speaking and writing sections, and no less than 54 in the other sections
