To be eligible to gain entry into this programme, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree, with a B average, at level 7 on the NZ Qualifications Framework or a recognised equivalent.

Teacher Education applications open from 1 July every year. Please apply early as all applicants are subject to an interview and selection process. Selection of applicants is based on academic background, communication skills, personal qualities, background experiences, and a literacy and numeracy assessment. As well as meeting the selection criteria, you will need to meet the admission requirements for the University.

If you are applying to study the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary), in addition to the qualification requirements, candidates seeking to enter a secondary programme must have sufficient depth and breadth of a relevant subject or curriculum knowledge from Levels 5 to 7, or higher, in their entry qualification that is relevant for teaching a particular secondary school subject. When you apply for the programme you will need to submit your degree transcript(s).

English Language Requirements

an Academic IELTS overall score of 7.0 (with no less than 7.0 in any band)
International Baccalaureate full diploma in English medium (24 points minimum). This must be completed at an IB school;
Cambridge International Examinations minimum 120 points on the UCAS Tariff plus meeting the CIE literacy requirements;
Cambridge English exams C2 Proficiency (CPE) or C1 Advanced (CAE) or
Cambridge English exams B2 First (FCE). A minimum score of 185, with no band score less than 185;
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic. A minimum score of 65 in all four modules;
a TOEFL iBT (Internet Based TOEFL) Must meet the following overall score of 98 and the following scores in each module: Listening - 24; Reading - 24; Writing - 27; Speaking - 23.
