If so, you probably have at least a moderate interest in political science. Butler offers a variety of courses that probe the workings of the public realm. If you are concerned about what happens 鈥渋nside the beltway鈥� in Washington, D.C. and its impact on U.S. citizens, Butler offers a course in American Federal Government. If you have questions regarding decisions made in Topeka and other levels of government closer to your home, the course in State and Local Government may best suit your interests.

Every government has a political system. When you study political science at Butler, you learn how political principles affect our cities, states and countries. Learn why people vote, or don鈥檛 vote 鈥� what they think about democracy, socialism, republicanism or communism. By studying politics, you unearth what makes people tick 鈥� how they fit in and act within their civic, cultural and economic structures.

When you grasp an understanding of political systems, you learn analytic skills that will help you in your pursuit of a bachelor鈥檚 degree.

Associate degrees are designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year college. After finishing a bachelor鈥檚 degree, career opportunities include high school social studies teacher, higher education political science professor, elected official, political consultant/advisor, government employee, or legal assistant. Political Science degrees also prepare students for careers in law.
