In addition to focusing on an instrument or voice, you can complete the Secondary Education Program which leads to certification to teach preschool to grade 12 in the State of Washington. This option requires more than 12 quarters to complete at 15鈥�16 credits per quarter and you are placed in appropriate area K-12 schools for student-teaching experience. A performance audition is required for entrance into this program.
Curriculum & Requirements
Music Education Major, Bachelor of Music Education (BME)
Students are prepared for professional careers as music educators in K鈥�12 systems. Students must audition on their primary instrument or voice as part of the admission requirement and are eligible for talent scholarships. Review the Music website for audition requirements.
Note:
The School of Education has pre-major prerequisites and Secondary Education Core requirements.
All students in this degree must work with a music education advisor throughout their residency to help them plan their schedule, as many courses are either sequential, offered only in certain years/terms, or have pre-requirements.
Students in this program are excused from major ensemble participation during the quarter of student teaching.

Students must have completed a secondary-level (high school) coursework from both inside and outside of the U.S.
Grade Requirement: You must show that you graduated from high school or secondary school with the equivalent of a "C" grade (2.0) or higher.
English Proficiency Requirements
If English is not your native language, you must meet English language proficiency in one of the following ways:
Complete a transferable college-level English composition course from a university or college in the United States with a minimum grade C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale)
Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and score at least 525 (paper-based) or 71 (iBT)
Have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 6.0
Have a Duolingo English Test score of at least 100.
Complete secondary school with instruction in English (official letter from school must be provided)
Complete of EWU鈥檚 English Language Institute (ELI)
