The Communication Sciences and Disorders program gives you an in-depth study of speech, language, hearing processes, and background orientation about disorders of communication in preparation for a graduate program.
OSU鈥檚 undergraduate program in communication sciences and disorders offers you a comprehensive pre-professional background to pursue a career in speech-language pathology and/or audiology. Our curriculum prepares you to apply for graduate school as well as take on positions such as a speech-language pathology assistant and/or an audiology assistant.
Career paths
This program prepares you to enter a graduate program in order to pursue certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Our graduates enjoy successful careers in a variety of fields: Speech-Language Pathologist; Audiologist; Hospital - Acute Care; Hospital - Rehab Setting; Adult Day Care Facility; Colleges and Universities; Public School System; Home Health Agency; Private Practice; Long-Term Care Facility.
Highlights: Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors have the opportunity to observe therapy sessions and seniors gain clinical experience; You can gain research experience in the Phon Farm, Motor Speech Lab, Sociophonetics Lab and the Language Learning Lab; Opportunity to take courses in American Sign Language, manually coded English and finger spelling; Opportunity to take courses in Deaf Education and learn about Deaf Culture; Observe how a certified audiologist tests hearing loss in newborn babies as well as in adults.
