Management professionals throughout the country state that the number one need for organizations in the twenty-first century will be professionals with communication skills. Organizations ranging from engineering and technical operations, to human services are looking for people who can communicate effectively. Old Dominion University designed its Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Professional Writing to meet this need by preparing individuals to excel in any professional business environment.
The degree was also designed to meet the needs of various populations, including traditional and non-traditional students, and individuals working in positions of influence who are interested in expanding their repertoire of skills. Offered through ODU Online in partnership with community colleges throughout Virginia, the program offers a unique learning experience and is especially sensitive to the needs and experiences of adult learners. With televised and video-streamed classes delivered in the evening and on weekends, the program offers its students in even the most remote locations an opportunity to earn a degree while working.

Traditional freshman applicants are typically under the age of 21 and currently enrolled in high school or have graduated from high school within the past two years and have not attended any regionally accredited college or university (not to include dual enrollment).
English proficiency test scores: TOEFL of 79 (550 paper based); IELTS overall band of 6.5; PTE score of 53; new SAT Reading Test of 26 or SAT Critical Reading of 480; GRE Verbal Reasoning of 152; GCSE or GCE 鈥淥鈥 level pass in English language; CPE grade of A, B, or C.
