At the intersection of healthcare and behavioral science, health psychology is a diverse course of study leading to a wide range of professional career options.
As a health psychology undergraduate, you will gain pivotal insights into behavioral, emotional, and cognitive factors that influence human health and social institutions ideal preparation for fields ranging from traditional psychology, public health, and research to child life specialist, law, and architecture. Throughout your course of study, you will build a foundation in psychology as well as knowledge of healthcare issues from fields such as sociology, law, ethics, literature, history, and healthcare administration. You also will receive rigorous preparation in the basic sciences and liberal arts and training in research methods and statistics. Our four-year program in health psychology one of only a handful in the US takes place on our Boston campus and starts in the fall.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the BS in Health Psychology program, students will be able to:
Apply concepts and theories from psychology to solve real-world problems.
Apply the biopsychosocial model to health and non-health contexts.
Locate and critically evaluate relevant sources to make evidence-based decisions.
Communicate psychology concepts and research findings to a variety of audiences (age, gender, culture, education level, expertise).
Apply effective team processes to engage in productive interdisciplinary collaboration.
Describe the breadth and applications of psychology in terms of topics and career options.
Demonstrate effective use of word processing, data processing, presentation, source management, collaboration, and project management software.
Identify careers of best fit based on individual work values, interests, and skills.
Program Goals:
To provide an opportunity for students to earn a BS in Health Psychology, with a strong knowledge base in the general principles of psychology as well as concepts and applications within health psychology.
To provide a comprehensive education that includes an understanding of healthcare delivery, healthcare ethics, and interprofessional healthcare teams.
To provide opportunities for the development and demonstration of communication, critical thinking, information literacy, and research design skills.
To provide curricular and experiential opportunities for students to explore the wide range of career options appropriate for individuals with a terminal bachelor’s degree in psychology.
To provide curricular and experiential opportunities for students to explore graduate training options within and related to psychology.
To provide individualized academic advising and career mentoring for all majors from the point of entry into the program through graduation.
