Students who have completed a CACREP master鈥檚 degree in another counseling specialization, such as school counseling, can earn an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC). The Advanced Certificate in CMHC is 24-credit hours and is typically completed in one year, fulltime on the Queens campus. Within the 24-credits, students are required complete two 300-hour internships in clinical settings during the summer and fall. The program meets New York state education requirements for the license in Mental Health Counseling, when combined with a CACREP master鈥檚 degree. Graduates of non-CACREP counseling master鈥檚 programs may be required to complete additional courses. Master鈥檚 degrees in non-counseling fields such as psychology or social work are not eligible for the Advanced Certificate. Advanced Certificate students start in the spring semester (January) only.

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not attended a postsecondary institution in which English is the language of instruction must provide TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores for admission.
Applicants who have taken the SAT can have the TOEFL/IELTS requirement waived
Applicants who have attended an American high school abroad or an American university can have the TOEFL/IELTS requirement waived

International students are encouraged to submit their application for admission and all required credentials by November 1 for spring semester admission.
