Reading, writing, listening and communicating are some of the most important skills we learn as children. As we grow and face new challenges, these skills become vital for overcoming obstacles in positive ways. That’s why a language arts curriculum like the one at the University at Central Missouri should not only teach middle school and junior high students the subject but also provide them life skills.
At UCM, we prepare you for this critical task at hand. Become the language arts teacher your students need with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.
A language arts degree designed for teaching middle school and junior high students
When you choose UCM for middle school-junior high school education, you choose the state’s largest stand-alone program of its kind. It has received national recognition by the Association of Middle Level Education (AMLE). This ensures your education and training as an English language arts teacher meets the highest standards specific to this age range — grades 5 through 9.
UCM is Missouri’s longest continuously accredited public institution by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. With this rich tradition of excellence, you can be confident you’re getting the best language arts curriculum on your journey to becoming an English language arts teacher.
What you will study
To become an English language arts teacher, you’ll participate in classes on our Warrensburg campus and gain field experience in an actual middle or junior high school classroom.

They’ll offer feedback as you learn to not only develop and deliver an effective and engaging language arts curriculum but also as you grow into a capable and thoughtful educator. The goal is to help you foster a positive environment that all students can thrive in.
