Foreign language education for today鈥檚 educators
When earning your Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages, with a focus on Teacher Education, you鈥檒l learn from award-winning educators who, like you, place a high value on language education. Through these tenured faculty or native speakers, you鈥檒l learn the foundation of education and experience the art of teaching French, Spanish or German. You鈥檒l graduate with a unique skill set that demonstrates critical thinking, flexibility in learning, great discipline and the ability to engage a diverse classroom.
A flexible degree in Modern Languages
To meet the various needs of our students, we offer full- and part-time schedules at our Warrensburg campus. You also have access to study abroad programs and online and hybrid classes to ensure your college experience meets your needs.
What you will study
First, decide if you want to be a French, Spanish or German teacher. From there, you鈥檒l develop language proficiency beyond the Elementary II level. At the same time, you鈥檒l take classes specific to language education for teachers, including the Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages course, for a well-rounded degree in Modern Languages.
Finish out UCM鈥檚 foreign language education program with student teaching in a classroom before you embark on your career as a French, Spanish or German teacher or continue your own education in grad school.
Previous language experience for your degree in Modern Languages
If you already have previous foreign language experience, you may qualify to forgo some elementary-level classes in UCM鈥檚 Modern Languages degree program. Placement exams for French, German and Spanish are available. You may also qualify to receive credit for some language courses if you hold the Seal of Biliteracy.
What can you do with a Teaching degree in Modern Languages from UCM?
With a Modern Languages degree, our alumni get jobs at high schools across Missouri for French, German and Spanish teachers. In fact, 100% of our Education graduates, including Modern Languages majors, are employed after earning their bachelor鈥檚 degree.
Others may choose to double-major in International Studies. This could lead to a position in international student affairs for a university. It could also take you overseas for a global career in teaching English as a second language to Japanese students, for example.

Students must have a 2.0 high school GPA or above to be admissible. If the applicant has taken undergraduate coursework the cumulative GPA of the undergraduate coursework must be a 2.0 or higher to be admissible.
