The Master of Science in Counseling offers an emphasis in Clinical Mental Health Counseling for those students desiring licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). This is 60-hour programs and include a common core as well courses specific to each emphasis.
Flexibility in program planning for the MS and the MEd degrees permits the student to prepare for positions in community agencies, schools, or student affairs in higher education. The master's degree program with School Counseling emphasis requires a minimum of 51-semester hours. The master's degree program with Clinical Mental Health emphasis requires a minimum of 60-semester hours. The MEd program with a Student Affairs emphasis is a 36-hour degree program. With proper advisement, course work required for the degree may include courses required in Texas for licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) and/or certification as a professional school counselor, as outlined in later sections.
