The Pre-Physician Assistant emphasis track prepares students to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative healthcare services. Students gain clinical experience through shadowing healthcare professionals or internships.
Our program is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experiences to succeed in their journey toward becoming a licensed physician assistant.
What is a physician assistant? A Physician Assistant works under the supervision of a licensed physician. Common duties of a PA include: Conducting physical exams: taking patient medical histories to help diagnose medical conditions. Interpreting diagnostic tests: blood work, X-rays, or CT scans, to help diagnose and manage medical conditions. Developing treatment plans: prescribing medications, providing education on lifestyle changes, and making referrals to other healthcare providers as needed. Performing medical procedures: suturing wounds, removing sutures, and casting broken bones.
Curriculum topics in the Pre-Physician Assistant emphasis Anatomy and Physiology: structure and function of the human body Biology: general biology, microbiology, and genetics Chemistry: general chemistry and organic chemistry Physics: understanding radiation, medical imaging, and the physical properties of fluids and gases Medical Terminology: the language of medicine and healthcare. Through the Pre-Physician Assistant emphasis track at Pitt State, gain the skills to advance to a graduate-level PA program.

High School Academic Records: A minimum GPA (grade point average) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in high school and have earned a high school diploma.
International College/University Academic Records: A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) in an accredited international post-secondary institution (college/university).
U.S. College/University Academic Records: A minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) if transferring from an accredited U.S. college with at least 24 credit hours (approximately one year of college work).
English Language Requirement:
TOEFL score of at least 68 (iBT) is required. In addition, a minimum score of 15 is required in each section (internet).
IELTS: Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.0. in each band of the IELTS is required. If a lower score is earned in any of the five band scores, the overall score cannot be accepted.
PTE: Overall score of 47.
Application Deadline: Fall Semester – June 1st, Spring Semester – October 15th.
