St Georges, University of London was opened in the year 1733 and was only the second institution in England to provide formal courses for doctors. St Georges is based in the multicultural hub of Tooting, in southwest London, and is the only university in the UK to specialise in both medicine and healthcare. The Medical School was established 1834 on Kinnerton Street and was incorporated into the hospital in 1868. The university has five institutes: Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; Infection and Immunity; Population Health; Medical and Biomedical Education; Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education. St Georges University is home to over 5000 students and more than 800 staff members.
